How PetFoodFix works
A short, transparent guide to what we check, how we decide, and where we draw the line for safety.
What we do
- Score your dog's current food against a curated UK product database.
- Check whether the food is complete or complementary.
- Analyze the label for named ingredients and transparency.
- Estimate daily calorie needs using FEDIAF 2025 / NRC.
- Provide safe portion estimates based on your dog's profile.
- Provide a transition plan if a change is needed.
- Flag when you should speak with a vet first.
What we don't do
- We do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe.
- We do not replace a veterinary consultation.
- We do not formulate prescription or therapeutic diets.
- We do not give emergency advice.
- PetFoodFix is built to keep food analysis independent from commercial influence.
- We do not guarantee results for clinical conditions.
What we ask for
We need four pieces of information to build your report.
Dog basics
Age, weight, sex, and breed size.
Body & Activity
Condition score and activity level.
Current Food
Brand, product, and amount fed.
Health Screen
Conditions, symptoms, or meds.
Safety Triage
Safety-First Screening
If your dog is in any of these situations, we stop the flow immediately. We will not take your payment, and we will point you to professional care.
- Puppies under 12 months
- Pregnant or lactating dogs
- Dogs on a prescription or therapeutic diet, or on medication that needs dietary management
- Diagnosed kidney, liver, pancreatic or heart disease, diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, IBD, megaoesophagus or severe allergies
- Chronic or severe vomiting or diarrhoea, blood in stool, or unexplained weight loss
- Refusing food for more than 24 hours, lethargy, severe pain, or severe itching with skin lesions
- Very underweight or very obese (body condition score 1–2 or 8–9 out of 9)
- Collapse, seizures, breathing difficulty, suspected poisoning or any other emergency sign
- Dogs over 10 years old with any other health concern
