The short answer
PetFoodFix is a free educational database for Canadian dog owners. Search a food and read what its label declares — ingredient order, the named protein, the guaranteed analysis and the calorie statement — then see a score from 0 to 100 across six dimensions: protein quality, protein quantity, naturalness, the first five ingredients, transparency and completeness. 80–100 is Very Good and 0–44 is Bad; the score is computed from label data only and is never veterinary advice.
The Canadian database is free to search: international brands, the manufacturers that only sell in Canada, and everything in between — read against the same objective framework we use in the UK and Brazil.

Built for Canadian labels
The Canadian pet food market mixes major international brands with high-quality local manufacturers. Labels often follow AAFCO or PFAC standards, and navigating them can still be complex.
We cover brands available at major Canadian retailers and specialised pet stores, all evaluated against the same objective framework used in our other markets.

When to contact a veterinarian instead
PetFoodFix is for healthy adult dogs only. If any of the following applies to your dog, please contact a licensed veterinarian in Canada before making dietary changes.
- Puppies under 12 months
- Pregnant or lactating dogs
- Dogs on a prescription or therapeutic diet, or on medication that needs dietary management
- Diagnosed kidney, liver, pancreatic or heart disease, diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, IBD, megaoesophagus or severe allergies
- Chronic or severe vomiting or diarrhoea, blood in stool, or unexplained weight loss
- Refusing food for more than 24 hours, lethargy, severe pain, or severe itching with skin lesions
- Very underweight or very obese (body condition score 1–2 or 8–9 out of 9)
- Collapse, seizures, breathing difficulty, suspected poisoning or any other emergency sign
- Dogs over 10 years old with any other health concern
